POLL OF THE DAY: Have Britain's police forces let down the Jewish community?

West Midlands Police came under intense pressure last night after supporting a move to ban supporters of Israeli football team Maccabi Tel Aviv from their fixture against Aston Villa in November.

The force has classified the fixture as "high risk" - and claimed it could leave public safety in peril.

Its decision came after pro-Gaza MP Ayoub Khan pushed authorities to "urgently cancel this fixture or take immediate steps to ensure public safety and community harmony".

And after the move was made public, top Tory Robert Jenrick bristled at how Israeli football fans had been banned from watching their team play at Villa Park as the police "can’t guarantee their safety".

While his former colleague Danny Kruger said: "If the police could not guarantee the safety of Jewish visitors because of antisemitism among the local Muslim population they should have banned the game itself - not yielded to the mob."

It follows a dark few weeks for Jews in Britain - two were killed by an Islamist at a Manchester synagogue, while gleeful pro-Palestine activists took to the streets for impromptu protests on October 7, the two-year anniversary of the largest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust.
