Major car brands recall 1.5 million vehicles over serious crash fears including Ford and Tesla - Are you at risk?

More than one million drivers are being warned of a massive recall notice affecting several popular vehicles for issues that could increase the risk of serious accidents.

Ford, Tesla and Jeep have all been forced to recall vehicles over concerns that drivers and other road users could be put at risk.

GB News has rounded up the most important car recalls of the past week that motorists need to know about.

Ford

In fresh documents filed with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford has announced a huge recall of 1.45 million vehicles.

The recall concerns rearview cameras that "fail to properly display an image that can reduce the driver's view behind the wheel".

The NHTSA warns that these vision issues can increase the risk of a crash, prompting the need for the widespread recall.

The recall covers various Explorer, Escape, Mustang, Flex, Fiesta, C-Max, Taurus, Fusion and Lincoln MKT and MKZ vehicles from model years 2015 through to 2020.

Ford said that dealers would inspect and replace the rearview cameras if necessary. This will be completed for free.

This is the second significant recall of vehicles after Ford was forced to issue notices for 1.9 million vehicles worldwide last month.

Ford COO Kumar Galhotra said: "We at Ford aim to move past this specific problem with analogue rear-view cameras," Reuters reported.

Tesla

The Elon Musk-led brand has been forced to issue a recall impacting 63,619 of its Cybertruck models, with a software update already released by Tesla.

The vehicle controller software may cause the front parking lights to be too bright and exceed the maximum light output. This can adversely affect the vision of other drivers and increase the likelihood of a crash.

NHTSA documents state that the vehicles would fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment".

Chrysler

The manufacturing giant is recalling 24,238 plug-in hybrid Jeep Wranglers from production years 2023 to 2025.

It warns that a software error in an over-the-air update may result in a loss of drive power, with a remedy for the issue still under development.

Chrysler reported that vehicles updated with the new software may cause incomplete communication between the Telematics Box Module and the Hybrid Control Processor, increasing the risk of an accident.
